When she asked for him to tell her about this Lexie Grey, she wasn’t just trying to humour him or make him feel better, she truly was curious to know about her— who she was in the past. She was well aware that she couldn’t just continue on with life knowing she had a family out there that was hurting over the fact that they thought she was dead. And after today, she doesn’t know if she can leave this man before her, clearly broken and still grieving the loss of the woman he loved. So she was going to stay and listen to him. Who knows, perhaps it’ll trigger some kind of memory.
A smile formed along her lips without her consent as she listens to his story. Whoever this Lexie was, she and this man seemed to have something really special. It made her wish she could remember, not just for her sake, but his as well. She reached out and squeezed his hand, trying to comfort him the best she could before looking up and taking the pictures he held out for her.
Swallowing hard, she looked down at the pictures and suddenly it seemed like she was struck by a truck. Picture after picture contained a woman, smiling brightly, with her friends and her family. This was her and yet she doesn’t remember. Tears began to form in her eyes as she shook her head. “I can’t— oh god..” She sobbed, her lips quivering. “I CAN’T remember.. how is this even real ???“
This was real. She was Lexie Grey. She was the love of his life.
MEANT TO BE.
The moment her skin came into contact with his, it was like he was given a breath of life. Feeling her hand came across and squeeze, icy blue eyes trailing down to lock on their two hands. Once she let go, he felt as if he couldn’t breath again. Like she was slipping away again, and it took all of his will not to reach out for her. Not to kiss her. Not to hold her. Not to do all the things he so desperately wanted to do with her. As he saw the tears streaming down her face, he couldn’t help but step forward. The palm of his hands coming up to press to the side of her cheek. His thumb running along her jawline, eyes frantically scanning her face. He saw her, he saw Lexie in her, even if she couldn’t see it yet. After a few moments the man stepped back with an apologetic look on his face. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have—I should have been slower with you. I didn’t mean to put it all on you that fast. I can stop if you want me to stop, but this is real, all of this is very real.” It took Mark a moment to even gain control of reality not even sure if he had fully grasped the concept yet.
she wished she could understand his pain– that she could feel it with him. because looking at him now, he didn’t need to say that he’s been hurting, she could see it from his eyes. they looked so lost and scared. scared at the thought of losing her. that feeling might be one sided but she sympathized with him. that’s the reason why she wanted to give him a chance. and it might be a little bit because she wanted to know more about this, lexie. she owed it to herself to know her life before. if she didn’t like it, she could always leave and return to her life. but knowing that she was a doctor and had a man like him in her life, how could she not want to go back.
she nodded her head, wanting to reach out to him. to touch him in some way but she just couldn’t bring herself to do so. instead, she remained in her spot, her hand turning the door knob and opening the door for them.
“well.. show me who lexie is. maybe it’ll make me remember some things.” though she was sure it was unlikely. many doctors have said so.
Her words gave him comfort, and confidence that now that she was
willing to accept the possibility he would in return be able to bring
back her memories. It seemed cliche, something that Mark would have
made fun of years ago, but now it was all too real. Even the sound of
her familiar voice brought a feeling of being punched in the gut. Unable
to help himself from staring at her with the adoration he had once held
for her, afraid if he took his eyes away she would be gone or he would
wake up from a dream. “You wereLexie was a resident here, one
of the brightest— and prettiest if you ask me.” Holding back the small
musing smirk before moving into the attendee room where their lockers
were.“When I met her it wasn’t love at first sight, we were friends, and
then suddenly we weren’t. Suddenly I was falling in love with her, which
isn’t normal of me. I wasn’t the kind of guy that got the girl, or got the suburban house with four kids. But when I met her that all changed, I
changed for the better. Home became where she was. We both tried to
move on, at the time she was just s t a r t i n g her career and I was just
realizing that what I wanted was a family. So we fought the connection
we had but the more I tried the more I realized I didn’t just want kids, I
wanted her kids, I wanted a family with her. But she wasn’t ready and I
loved her too much to push her. But… the moment everything fell into
place, the moment it seemed like everything was turning around, that we were going to work out, the plane crashed and she” By the end of
Mark’s words his voice fell faint with glossy eyes. Hands reaching into
his locker to pull a few pictures from the side, pictures of not only their
time t o g e t h e r but her time at Seattle Grace, handing them to her with sorrow gaze.
the longer she waited for him to tell her that all of this was all for a laugh, the more she started to think. she knew she was adopted. there was no denying that. with a family filled with tall, blonde and blue eyed people, she was the one that stood out amongst the others. with her being so ordinary with her brown eyes and brown hair. and with her older brothers, as well as her parents having their loud personality, she was the more quiet one. a part of her, the part she did not want to listen to, wanted to believe that perhaps this man was a part of her past. he could be a missing piece.
“a doctor?” she interrupted, shocked at the revelation. “oh god.. i don’t– i don’t know what to say..” she finally stood up from her seat and began to pace back and forth, feeling as if she was starting to lose air. “look i don’t– i don’t know if i want to know more. i’m happy with who i am. i like being JANE MATTHEWS. i’m used to being her. i love my family and my life. i can’t do this with you.. i’m sorry.”
“You know me Lexie. You know me.” Every part of his body began to grow
heavy, feeling as if earth’s gravity was puling him down. “Use to being her? But you’re not her. You are not JANE MATTHEWS. You are Lexie Grey. A
surgeon. && your family is h e r e in this hospital, it’s me, it’s Meredith, it’s
every G O D D A M N doctor that you helped study for the boards with your
photographic memory.” By now, Mark was just trying to spew out anything she might catch on to, afraid that every single word f a l l i n g out of his lips
was just going on deaf ears.
It was as if all the joy that had just RUSHED through him was now draining out of him, trying so desperately to hold onto it. Stepping forward again, hope glistening in icy blue eyes. “Just stay, stay for a little. I’ll prove it to you. I-I’ve got a picture of you && I. It’s in my locker if you just let me run to get it” Marks words were run with d e s p e r a t i o n, unsure of what he would do if he let her go twice. Knowing all to well it would truly ruin him this time. But he wasn’t going to let go this time, he was holding on for dear life.
“i’m sorry?” she scoffed, pausing for a moment before standing on her feet and shaking her head. “is this some kind of JOKE you tell your new clients or something? because it’s not funny. –oh wait, my older brother put you up to this didn’t he ??? it’s something he would do. he always makes fun of me and how i don’t have my old memories.” she chuckled before licking her lips. “well tell my brother that the JOKE is on him because i’m on to his stupid pranks. &&shame on you for letting him talk you into this. aren’t you supposed to be professional with being a doctor and all?”
Older brother? Mark was sure by now he had gone CRAZY. That he was seeing things. That he was seeing her everywhere. But something told him that wasn’t the case as she spoke more about m e m o r i e s. && then it
truly hit him, making his heart sink all the way to his stomach. Her last
comment almost made him laugh out of the seriousness of the situation. Professionalif he was professional he would have never fell in love with her. The plastic surgeon couldn’t help but step forward. “I know you, and you know me. Your old memories….a lot of them happened here. You’re Lexie Grey. Dr. Grey.” Mark took a shaky breath, knowing all to well until she believed him there was NO chance of having her remember him. Although he had no idea on how to go about t h i s. “Years ago a few doctors boarded a plane, and it went down. You and I were among this doctors. E V E R Y O N E thought you died, Lex.”
did he just call her lexie? no what if she got the wrong room. she was so sure this was the right one. it said his name just outside of the room. “no.. it’s jane. jane matthews actually. yeah, i’m just here to see if you can remove these burn marks on my back. i was in this a c c i d e n t years ago.. and i know i should have gotten it treated then but i didn’t have the money and my family sort of didn’t have the money either so here i am.. now.” she chuckled slightly, shaking her head. “sorry i’m rambling.. you don’t care about that. well anyways, that’s what i’m here for.. my back.” she gave him a small smile before giving him a shrug. “so could you do it or …. ???”
Every part of his body began to ache as his mind filed in some of
the m i s s i n g pieces. Throat tightening as his stomach coiled.
Questions splurging like rapid fire through his brains. Where had
she been all these years? How had he not known? && most of all,
how could she have FORGOTTEN who she was? The rambling made his heart ache even more, giving him hope that the old lex’ the lex he never stopped l o v i n gwas still in there. “You were in a plane crash years ago. I don’t know who Jane Matthews is but it’s not you you’re
Lexie Grey.” He decided to leave out the whole ‘meant to be’ part
but wasn’t afraid just to lay it all out, whether she was T A K E the
information or not. He saw no other option.
the breath was knocked out of her the moment their eyes met. something felt so familiar about him despite never meeting before, ( at least that’s what she thinks ). it took her a moment, SILENCE filling the room before she finally cleared her throat, blinking. she looked at him with furrowed brows the second his words settled into her. “um.. yes? i am alive.. && so are you.” she chuckled.
Still Mark stood in utter SHOCK, with no words to say and what seemed like
no B R E A T H of life. Blinking a couple of times, afraid he had set himself
out of r e a l i t y. Every inch of himself not allowing him to believe THIS
was actually her. Yet every-time she s p o k e it was just another indication
that this wasn’t some curling DREAM brought on by that spooky old Chinese food Callie had brought him earlier that day. Chewing on the i n s i d e of
his cheek, he shut the door behind him, looking d o w n at the chart before
back up at the woman. The names didn’t match and she looked at him with
some kind of emptiness almost as if she had no I D E A who he was.

I'm always open for plotting so feel free to jump into my ask or tag me in a starter if I follow you on my Derek. I have skype for anyone that wants to talk or plot. Oh yeah and gave me all the Maddison and Slexie. I'm also probably the biggest crackshipper.
