WE LOVED AND WE LOST || This is sort of a Part 0, a set up to a fic I’m currently writing.

Things were different now. Lexie had Jackson and Mark had, WELL Mark had a weird eye surgeon. They tried to tell themselves it was for the b e t t e r, that they were for the better by not being with each-other. Mark wanted kids, he wanted a family and Lexie was just getting started, she was just figuring out what she wanted. Lexie wasn’t ready to jump into a life of family but Mark wasn’t willing to wait any longer.  But despite the two’s efforts, the love between that had remained everlasting. An empty pit filling both of their stomachs every moment of EVERY DAY when they weren’t with each other.  The taste of each other’s lips, smell of their clothes haunting their every waking dream. But Mark had buried those thoughts d e e p down, telling himself he was moving on, but any sane person could see otherwise. Although as much as Lexie tried to tell herself that, she couldn’t and her LOVE for Mark Sloan, her need for MARK SLOAN was eating her alive. It wasn’t until the moment she walked out of Seattle Grace Mercy West, where she saw Mark Sloan perched at the entrance did she decide that she would P O U R her heart out to him one last time. That this would be the last try and then if he still wanted to move on he could and she would finally be able to. Although the m o m e n t his unforgettable and unimaginable eyes wavered onto hers she froze. Barely able to stammer out a S I M P L E greeting.

“Oh hey,” She finally breathed out, tasting the slight B L O O D as she
chewed on the inside of her cheek roughly. Jaw clenching as tethered
fingers played with the loose string coming off the button of her coat.

“Hey,” Mark’s feet tapped onto the floor as he
                              s t r a i g h t e n e d up, offering a small smile.

“Thanks for today, for letting me uhm uh-thanks uhm,
Lexie’s mind had run an overload in thoughts causing
                 her to stammer quietly.

                                                            “Good job in there.”

“Thanks.” Her head slowly fell down a little,
as the nerves O V E R W H E L M E D  her.

“— you okay?” Finally asking as one foot stepped forward.

I LOVE YOU. Oh God.. oh, my God, that just came flying out of my face. I love you. I just…I did it again. I love you. I do. I just, I love you. And I have been trying N O T to say it. I have been trying so hard to just mash it down and ignore it and not say it… I am so IN LOVE with you. You’re in me. You’re like — it’s like you’re a d i s e a s e. It’s like I am infected by Mark Sloan and I just can’t t h i n k about anything or anybody and I can’t sleep. I can’t breathe. I can’t eat. And I love you. I love you all the time. Every minute of every day. I LOVE YOU.”  Lexie didn’t take one breath through the whole thing, spitting out the words like it was her last d y i n g memory. But the words had taken Mark back, unable to even process them before his girlfriend peaked her head outside, startling both of them.

“Hey Lexie!” Greeting the brunette with a S M I L E as big as
the horizon before pressing a hand on Mark’s forearm. “I know
we were gonna go out to eat tonight but my patient just came
in and she really needs her surgery—”

Still Mark was in pure shock, unable to even move his fingers
                                    let alone lips, n e v e r once leaving Lexie’s gaze. After a few
MOMENTS, he received a tight squeeze finally breaking him
out of his trance.“No no go I’ll be fine.”

With that she headed back into the building and all Mark could do was
see a million stories through Lexie’s eyes. Breath hitched and fingers
pressing to his thigh as he began to process out every little word she
                  spoke.

                                                          “Mark….Mark please say SOMETHING,”

Before Lexie could even finish her words, Mark had stepped forwards, the palm of his hands pressing to her cheeks and gently YANKING her towards him. Letting a moment of pure silence fill their surroundings, just the sound of their breath meeting each other along with warmness as it hit their mouths. Finally Mark leaned forward and p r e s s e d his lips to hers, and the whole world seemed to fit B A C K into place. All the doubts and all the worries just lifted of their shoulders, and washed away in the ocean waves. Tangling in each other’s lips for the next few moments, NEVER WANTING TO PART, even for a breath. But finally Lexie pulled back, a nervous chuckle leaving her lips. “Or that, that works too,” Once again Mark didn’t respond, instead he grabbed her by her hand and whisked her back into the hospital. “WAIT— wait what are you doing?! What if she sees us? What if Jackson–” Once again her voice in stammers as he pressed the elevator button. His fingers pressed to her lips and it only took one look to see that the coast was clear before Mark began pushing Lexie into the elevator. Hand reaching back to make sure the elevator was closed and stopped before he had her hand on her thigh, pushing her up onto his waist as the two tongues tangled for dominance.
