“Right. I, um– Thanks.” She brushed her hair from her face, wincing from the pain of the movement as she followed Mark into the bathroom. “I’d appreciate if you don’t tell him about all this. It probably just looks back because of all the blood. Once I’m cleaned up, you’ll see it’s really not that bad. I just made a really dumb mistake. Get what you deserve, right?”

As they made their way to the bathroom, Mark listened intently. His gaze swaying from in front of them to her. Stopping everything when he heard those last words leave her lips. He was quick to sit her, two of his fingers meeting the end of her chin to tilt it up. 

❝Don’t ever say that again. You did not DESERVE this, you hear me?❞ 

He added firmly, pulling out the first aid kit and popping it open. Shuffling through it to find the things he needed. 

❝Now why don’t you start off by telling me who did this to you. And don’t say some coffee table.
